Storage Hints

.) Put a good quality lock on your door. For your convenience, we sell locks.

.) Make sure you get boxes that can hold a maximum of 25 to 35 lbs. Uniform size boxes stack best. Try not to fill the boxes with too many items.

.) Put electronic equipment in the rear of your unit. (or preferably in climate-controlled space)

.) Do not place sharp objects on top of furniture.

.) Break down tables with removable legs to save space and wear and tear on table legs.

.) Place your sofas and love seats at the end of the space. Wrap your cushions in breathable sheets or towels and place them on top. Don’t use plastic wrap, which promotes condensation and mildew.

.) Wrap your pictures and mirrors in cardboard, mark them “FRAGILE” and stack on end.

.) Make sure your dishes and glasses are wrapped in paper in sturdy boxes. Stack them on top.

.) Place heavier boxes on the bottom and lighter ones on top.

.) Be sure to list all the contents of boxes on several sides. Number the boxes and seal them with tape.

.) Make an inventory of all items by box number, and keep it in a safe place, such as a safe deposit box.

.) Place any items you may need to access often in the front of the storage unit.

.) Make sure you have walkways through your unit.

.) Only purchase the size of a unit that you need so that you can pack it full.

.) Cover furniture with cardboard or blankets to protect it from getting dusty.

.) Prop mattresses on their sides standing up straight so they won’t get lumpy.

.) Do not store food items or pet food! Drawers in furniture can make great storage spaces for pictures, silverware and other small items. Make sure you wrap them in some form of towel or blanket to prevent damage to the item.

.) DO NOT store any COMBUSTIBLE items (i.e., gasoline, propane, paint thinner, paint, etc.)

.) Use empty trashcans to store rakes, brooms, shovels, hoes, hoses, etc. Stack empty trashcans inside each other.
